In January, I sashed together a new section of the middle … the center-right one. I had four more blocks to sash, and they could be attached to four other 2×2 block sections to complete the 20-block section you see above.
I’d been complaining about how boring this sashing was going to be, but I’m discovering something cool about the boringness. There’s no figuring out of new techniques, no little pieces to lose track of, no period of adjustment while you remember where you’re at.
And this means, you can pick it up and work on it for a few minutes every day. There was a lot of sashing to do to complete this section, but I found myself picking it up and stitching a couple of inches, then putting it down and getting back to a project at work, household chores, or whatever else needed my attention.
Block G10 was definitely the problematic block in this set of sashing … those little triangle pieces around the sides all seemed to be not quite the right size. Luckily, they were pretty small, so I could just eyeball going from point to point. I’m thankful I only have one more side to sash on this block (by sewing it to the completed 5×5 center section).
But even then, I could pick it up for just a few minutes, eyeball my way across one or two triangles, and put it down again.
And bit-by-bit, a couple of inches at a time, I’m getting this sashing done.
