It’s been a long while since I got out my QuiltCut2 (I think it was when I was cutting out binding strips for the rainbow quilt), but I thought it would be great for cutting out all those sashing logs. I’d been cutting them out eight at a time, for each four-block batch of sashing, but they’re all the same size, so why wouldn’t I cut them out in bulk?

So, I cut out four score (a.k.a. eighty) logs on my QuiltCut2, which went really quickly. I cut out the dozen logs individually, because it seemed like too few to easily use the QuiltCut2.
Here are the two stacks. They each took about the same amount of time to cut.

The good news is that with these 92 sashing logs, I have all the logs I need for the entire rest of the quilt.
This batch of sashing was done mostly during a marathon session of waiting at the hospital.
The downside: I hadn’t marked the centers of the sides on one of the blocks, and had not brought a marking pencil with me. I got to that block in Hour 5 and did not have remaining bandwidth to deal with it.
The upside? Hours of uninterrupted stitching time.
When I ended up taking this set of sashing to the hospital for the anticipated long wait, I was pleased to already have eight logs cut and ready to go. It made it that much faster to prep the batch and get out the door.
If I get really organized, maybe I’ll mark all the stitching lines on the remaining four score and four logs.
