The Quilting Prescription

After an advanced block and an advanced triangle one after the other, doing a super simple beginner block was just what the doctor ordered.

For a change, I picked out a nice small print from the beginning, knowing that I was going to have green pieces adjacent to other green pieces. With such a small-scale, random print, there wasn’t really any need for fussy cutting here.

Based on my experience with the apple core stamp set at retreat, I’ve already ordered more stamp sets. Even though I didn’t enjoy the curved piecing of the apple core shapes, the ease of stamping the cutting and stitching lines is a game changer. Most of the other stamp sets I’ve ordered are for non-curved shapes though.

This would have been a great Dear Jane block to use my new stamps on, but the set that had the 3/4″ square stamp had not arrived yet. So, I had to cut this block out the old-fashioned way.

Still, the two sizes of squares were a breeze to cut out with a rotary cutter, and the marking didn’t take very long at all.

I stitched the two nine-patches with red thread, then switched to medium green thread for sewing the four-patch together, since there were green pieces adjacent to other green pieces.

I’m glad I saved out a few beginner blocks till late in the project, for times like these when I could use a quick win. Only 24 blocks left to go, and I’ve still got three beginner block “doses” to use as needed. On to the next block!
