Once the skinny sashing strips were on, it was time to move on to the next round of borders: attaching the triangle borders to the skinny strips.

Before attaching the skinny sashing strips to the rest of the quilt, I had marked both long edges of the strips. It was definitely much easier to measure and mark before each strip was attached to most of a quilt top.

So, I was already ready to go as far as those skinny strips were concerned – they already had markings showing the proper placement for the edge and the center of each triangle block.

What I did NOT do ahead of time was mark the centers of the actual triangles, so I had to go back and mark all 52 of them before I could really get going.

Once everything was marked, I started by sewing the right side triangle border on the quilt. Then I attached the top-right corner block to the top border. Attaching that unit to the main quilt was technically a y-seam, but it was such a shallow “y” (probably italic font) that it was not a big deal at all.

Then I continued around the quilt, stitching the top-left corner to the left side border and attaching that to the quilt.

For the final (bottom) border, I attached both remaining corners to it and then attached that to the quilt.

The process of attaching the triangles was more fussy than I’d like, and took longer than I’d like too. But it’s finally done, if not quite in time for my completely arbitrary June 8th deadline.

I’m not sure I’d go so far as to call the triangle borders terribly troublesome … yes, you’re right, I did call them that. But that was mostly to continue my theme of triple-alliterative blog article titles about the borders.

The most troublesome aspect of the triangle borders was the photo. I realized partway through attaching the outer borders that I never took a picture of the triangle borders on the quilt, so for now, you just get a photo of one as-yet-unbordered corner.
