The Bounty of Light Greens

I’ve got several light green blocks left to do, so I’m trying to sprinkle them in periodically. I wouldn’t want to have light green overload!

And I felt like this particular light green block would give me a chance to redeem myself on thread choice after Block M8. There aren’t any seams on this one where there are both red-on-red and color-on-color matchups within the same seam. All I’d have to do is remember to switch thread when sewing seams with green pieces next to green pieces.

My first diamond-in-a-square block was pretty simple and straightforward, but that’s not the case with this one. It’s more of a square-in-a-diamond-in-a-diamond-in-a-diamond-in-a-square block … and yet, it was no big deal. Look at how far I’ve come in nine years!

Between the skinny strips, the green pieces adjacent to green pieces, and the relatively large-scale print, this fabric was not really possible to fussy cut. But I think the print is sparse enough that none of the non-fussy-cut pieces look too odd.

Obviously, this is not the light green block where I will use the light green fabric I recently rediscovered in my stash. Where I use that fabric will remain a mystery for a little while longer, because I still have a surprising number of light green blocks left to do (three squares and one triangle), and I haven’t yet decided which block to use the new fabric on.

You may remember my vow in that same blog article to use up some of the fabric I already have before bringing in any more … I am here to confess that the vow did not last long. Earlier this week, I went to a “scrap extravaganza” at my local quilt guild.

Folks had donated so many scraps that they were running out of storage space and decided to de-stash, offering the scraps up to guild members for free. Any scraps that weren’t taken would be donated to a textile recycling place to be used for pet bed filling.

Of course, I had to step in and save some still-perfectly-usable fabric scraps! But I did have some restraint, and only brought home one grocery sack of fabric from the extravaganza. Among my finds were three more possible light green fabrics:

I’ve got another light green block coming up soon where I was planning to use the same fabric as this block, but I wasn’t enthusiastic about it. Now I have a bounty of new light greens to choose from!

    1. I still haven’t decided which one I’m going to use, but that is my first choice right now. I still need to hold all three up to my other light greens to see which is the best match. 🙂
