This is my last triangle block to complete, and I can’t help but reflect on how far I’ve come. Between the triangular block shape and that one spot where six pieces plus two appliqué patches all come together, this block would have been so daunting in the early days.
That’s not to say that this one wasn’t still somewhat daunting. I had been thinking about how I would resurrect the infamous appliqué pillow of 2004 for my next portable project, but now I’m not so sure.
It does seem appropriate for me to do all this reflecting while piecing a block with two melon shapes that are almost mirror images of each other though. I even switched out the fabric at the last minute, in order to use this meandering dots and lines fabric, which made me think of meandering (and reflective) water. Probably my faithful readers are not that shocked at me making fabric changes right before starting a block, but this was literally a couple of minutes before I started cutting out pieces – a new record.
The appliqué on this block was supposed to go right up to the seam line. If I was smart, I would have just left that part of the two melon shapes un-appliquéd and tucked them into the seam allowance. But I didn’t, so now mine are just “seam-line adjacent” … and not even quite as adjacent as I’d like.
Also, the bottom melon seems a little off-kilter. Clearly the light source for this “reflection” was not directly overhead.
Thankfully, while it is not the last appliqué block I have left to do, it is at least the last one where two appliqué pieces are supposed to mirror image reflect each other while also being right at the seam line.
Upon reflection, I’m really relieved to be done with the triangle blocks. On to the next (square) block!
