This block uses fabric with little tally marks on it, which is appropriate because I’m tallying up the few blocks remaining in this project – I’m nearing the end.
The block was actually not super complicated to do. It’s a pinwheel block, with some sashing, and cornerstones made of half square triangles. I’m really glad I saved some of these less complicated blocks for the end, when I really want to make fast progress and get this done.
In my last article I was joking about naming my next blog “The Cranky Quilter” … but I actually am getting close enough to finishing the Dear Jane blocks that I do spend some time thinking about the blog that comes after this one.
I’m toying with the idea of a blog where I challenge myself to make projects using only the quilting supplies I already have at home. Sort of a “use it up, wear it out, make it do, or do without” scenario.
A week or so ago, I went to the annual sale of our local chapter of the Clothing & Textile Advisors, and I really tried to have some restraint and not bring home a bunch of new fabric treasures. Of course, I did still find some, and now I’m working on fitting them into my existing bins, or taking out some less desirable fabric to make room.
I also found a small Bloc-Loc ruler for the bargain price of $3 – one that retails for over $30. Why are those Bloc-Loc rulers so darn expensive?! Perhaps my first post-Dear-Jane challenge project should feature 3″ half-square triangles, so I can make use of my awesome new ruler.
For those that are keeping count, I tallied up 16 half-square triangles in this block. Too bad I didn’t have that Bloc-Loc ruler yet when I was stitching all those half-square triangles.
Also for those watching the official tally, this is block number 205 of 225. Only twenty blocks left to go!
